Here are the top stories today in New Orleans:
- After 16 hours of negotiations, the man that barricaded himself inside a home with his child surrendered to police at 11:36 a.m. on Monday. Police were called to the scene the night before when a person who knew the man said he was threatening to harm himself and SWAT was brought in to negotiate. The man was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation and the child, aged 9 months, was unharmed and given to his mother. (WWLTV.com)
- A car was stolen on Fleur De Lis Drive with a child still inside the vehicle. The suspect took the vehicle early Sunday morning at the intersection at 20th Street and the car was discovered with the child inside and unharmed later in the day on Louisville Street, though the incident is not classified as a carjacking because it does not fit the legal definition. - One person was killed and five were injured in a pair of shootings on Friday night. Just after 8 p.m., two were shot on Cardenas Street and there is no word on their condition. Later in the night, police responded to a 10:15 p.m. call alerting them of a shooting on North Galvez Street where they found one man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was later taken to the hospital and declared dead and four additional gunshot wound victims arrived who are believed to be connected to the North Galvez incident.
