Here are the top stories today in New Orleans:
- After 10 years off the shelves, Hubig's Pies returned to New Orleans on Sunday and sold nearly 1,000 in a pop-up on Carrolton Avenue. Started in 1921, production of the New Orleans staple came to a halt in 2012 after a fire destroyed the bakery. The pies are now back and in high demand as they reclaim their icon status and nostalgia among New Orleanians. (WWLTV.com)
- About almost a year after New Orleans EMS began performing on-site blood transfusions, a paramedic performed the life-saving measure for the 100th time since it became available. The consensus among New Orleans EMS is that it is extremely helpful in saving lives out in the field. The device allows victims to receive more blood closer to 10 minutes than the 40 it would usually take to get to a hospital. Other EMS services are looking to New Orleans as an example on how to incorporate the procedure in their cities. (WDSU New Orleans)
- A car drove through a crowded Frenchman Street on Friday night and crashed into Café Negril's outdoor seating. The driver was charged with reckless operation of a vehicle, driving without insurance or registration, and a hit-and-run, though luckily no one was hurt. The incident is bringing up questions to whether driving along Frenchman Street at night should still be allowed. (wwltv)
