🌱 Illegal Dumping Progress + Freret Burglaries

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New Orleans.

Hello all. I'm back with your fresh copy of the New Orleans Daily. Let's get this Saturday started off right, with a quick dive into everything you need to know about what's happening in town these days. In today's issue, you'll learn about these stories and more:

  • The fight against illegal dumping has not been lost
  • Freret Street businesses suffer break-ins
  • Suspects sneak into deaf man's home

But first, today's weather:

Morning sprinkles; cooler. High: 65 Low: 44.

Here are the top stories in New Orleans today:

  1. New Orleans has made progress in the fight against illegal dumping this year with 200 tons of waste collected since mid-year. The $1 million that was allocated to the sanitation department has gone towards hiring three new pickup crews and plans for opening two dumping stations. Though there is new hope, a large amount of waste still remains across NOLA. (WWLTV.com)
  2. There has been a recent uptick in a string of burglaries hitting small businesses on Freret Street. Just recently, Good Bird and J's Creole Wings were victims of break-ins and robberies. Businesses along the street are demanding more accountability and presence from NOPD, who they feel has given a lackluster response. (WDSU)
  3. An Algiers man with a hearing impairment was awoken from his nap by police who informed him that two suspects had snuck into his house while he was sleeping. Officers had surrounded the house and told the man, Stephen LaDow, that two men were hiding in his costume closet. The suspects, aged 20 and 17, were booked with unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling. (WWLTV.com)
