Here are the top stories today in New Orleans:

  1. Around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, NOPD officers responded to the report of a shooting in the Lower Garden District. Officers arrived to find one victim, a man who was declared dead at the scene and who had suffered a gunshot wound at the intersection of Erato and Constance streets. (Uptown Messenger)
  2. A now deleted Instagram post accidentally published to the NOPD's social media is showing frustration with chronic low bond amounts being set in New Orleans. After deleting the post, the NOPD declined to comment since it is not their job to set bond amounts, but it the role of the magistrate court. Low bond amounts mean that is far more likely for suspects be released and faster after they are arrested. (FOX 8 LIVE)
  3. Federal prosecutions of gun charges in the New Orleans East district were up by 85 percent in 2022, which is at odds with the national average that declined by 11 percent. Likely in part due to the increase of violent crime seen last year in New Orleans, more gun protections are being brought now than in the last 15 years. (WWLTV.com)

Today in New Orleans:

  • Gulf States Quilting at the River Ridge Library (10:00 AM)
  • Teen D&D Club at the Harahan Branch Library (5:30 PM)
  • Discussion about Tropical Design Architecture at the Preservation Resource Center (6:00 PM)

From my notebook:
