Here are the top stories in New Orleans today:

  1. The Pastor of New Orelans' First Emanuel Baptist Church has been accused of money laundering and currently faces up to 10 years in prison. A U.S. Attorney announced that Dr. Charles J. Southall has been charged with one count of money laundering after a $100,000 transfer landed in his bank account. (WDSU New Orleans)
  2. Hundreds gathered at the Masjid Omar Mosque on Saturday to mourn the three children who perished in a house fire in Gretna earlier this week. The fire victims, aged 15, 8, and 2, were laid to rest just 24 hours after they were recovered from the fire. A GoFundMe has been started to support the family and more details on the origins of the fire are expected to be released soon but as of now officials do not suspect foul play. (WWLTV.com)
  3. A man was arrested on Friday after he allegedly fired a gun at a Coast Guard rescue helicopter off a 40-foot sailboat near Venice, LA. The coast guard received a distress signal early Thursday morning and flew out to the boat where they saw a man and two dogs aboard the vessel. The man allegedly then began firing at the helicopter, which turned back to Air Station New Orleans. The Coast Guard dispatched more boats and aircrafts to track the vessel. The operator was then arrested. (FOX 8 Local First)
