🌱 Mardi Gras Krewe Float Legislation + Guaranteed Income Program

Welcome back, New Orleans! Here's everything you need to know to get this Friday started off right.

First, today's weather:

Humid with potential thunderstorms. High: 86 Low: 71.

Here are the top three stories in New Orleans today:

  1. The Louisiana House voted 96-0 to pass legislation that could make it more difficult to sue Mardi Gras Krewes for float deaths and injuries. The bill is now moving on to the Senate, who will consider if they will pass the legislation limiting the ability to sue a Krewe unless the death or injury resulted from "deliberate or wonton act or gross negligence."   2. Louisiana adoptions and foster care have been stalled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Southeast Louisiana Office of Volunteers of America Adoption program reporting having no adoptions during the whole pandemic year and only 4 in 2021. (WDSU New Orleans)
  3. The City of New Orleans has launched a Guaranteed Income Program as of May 4 thanks to a grant from Mayors for a Guaranteed income. 125 NOLA citizens aged 16-24 will receive a $350 stipend once a month for 10 months. The program is supposed to help at-risk youth.(WWLTV.com)
