Now, today's weather:
A morning thunderstorm. High: 86 Low: 77.
Here are the top stories today in New Orleans:
- A tropical development in the Atlantic has been upgraded to a "medium" chance of tropical depression hitting the Gulf of Mexico or the East Coast in the next 10 days. The conditions off the west coast of Africa are right for a storm forming, but Sahara dust over the tropical Atlantic could prevent it from happening. (WDSU New Orleans)
- All St. Tammany Parish public school students will now receive free breakfasts and lunches for the next four years. The parish entered the Community Eligibility Provision Program funded mainly by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. (NOLA.com)
- A New Orleans mother was arrested after stabbing her two children, ages 4 and 2 on Sunday. Both children were taken to the hospital, where the 4-year-old later died and the 2-year-old is being held in critical condition. The kids were hurt around 11:15 a.m. on Law Street and the mother was later arrested after posting a video to social media where she announced that her children had died. (WBRZ)
