🌱 New 911 Call Categories + 20,000 Gallons Of Oil In Arabi Bayou
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New Orleans.
Hello, hello! Shannon Denney here with your Wednesday edition of the New Orleans Daily, filled with all the local information you need to know right now. In this issue, you'll find news about...
- 911 response times could be getting shorter thanks to this new policy
- An oil spill in Arabi's bayou
- Mayor LaToya Cantrell's recall efforts have been successful so far
But first, today's weather:
Sunny, breezy and pleasant. High: 82 Low: 61.
Here are the top stories today in New Orleans:
- Organizers campaigning to remove Mayor LaToya Cantrell from office have so far amassed 20 percent of the signatures they need in order to remove her after only a month of effort. Many who are working in support of the recall believe that if they keep up this pace, they can be successful in as little as 5 months.
- New Orleans' 911 call center is revamping how they categorize emergency calls. Previously, calls that needed to be downgraded required navigating red tape and supervisor approval that adds valuable minutes to NOPD's response time. The new 911 call system makes it easier for dispatchers to organize emergencies so that dire situations get priority. (FOX 8 Local First)
- New Orleans Metropolitan Association of Realtors Names New CEO (Biz New Orleans)
- 20,000 gallons of oil were released into Arabi bayou over the weekend though officials are unsure how or why. The leak was noticed on Sunday and investigative agents believe that someone opened the oil valve to fill two oil transformers, causing gallons of oil to spill into the bayou. (WBRZ)
