Here are the top stories today in New Orleans:

  1. City Council, fed up with the amount of illegal dumping across the city, passed an ordinance making the penalty for dumping more intense. Now, anyone guilty of illegally dumping might have to give up their car and pay up to $500 in fees associated with towing and storage of the vehicle. (WWLTV.com)
  2. A document from the the Secretary of State's office confirmed that the number of signatures needed to recall New Orleans Mayor, LaToya Cantrell, is actually 3,368 less than initially thought. 20% of eligible voters must sign the petition in order for the recall to happen, and with this decrease, they are only about 11,600 away from reaching their goal. 3. Two were shot, killing one, on Tchoupitoulas around 3:30 AM on Saturday morning. Police responded to the scene finding a male and female victims with gunshot wounds. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment, where the male victim later died. (WDSU)
