Here are the top stories today in New Orleans:
- New Orleans City Council voted in favor of the "padlock" ordinance last week, which essentially gives police the power to shut down businesses that continually contribute to crime. Businesses that are considered "chronic nuisances" can be shut down for up to two years. (News Talk 96.5 KPEL)
- A reporter from the parent company of the New Orleans Advocate, Times-Picayune, and NOLA.com is suing the chairperson and custodian of records for the Mayoral recall effort to try and gain access to see who has signed the recall petition after allegedly making public records requests. The recall organization made a statement saying they value the privacy of their voters. (FOX 8 LIVE)
- The DA's office released a statement on the dismissal of charges in a shooting and carjacking case against a 17-year-old, whose charges were dismissed after prosecutors failed to bring formal adult charges within 30 days. The DA's office said they are willing to fight to the State's supreme court if necessary to bring justice, and plan to appeal the dismissal. (WWLTV)
