The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New Orleans.
Good morning, neighbors! It's me, Shannon Denney, your host of the Daily. Here's what you need to know about what's happening in town. In today's issue, you'll get updates on:
- Leftovers from the American Rescue Plan Act are going towards NOLA East
- A Crimestoppers tip led to the arrest of a fatal shooting suspect
- NOPD wants public's help
But first, today's weather:
Winds subsiding and cooler. High: 55 Low: 43.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in New Orleans who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our readers to local businesses they need to know. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top stories in New Orleans today:
- NOPD is asking for the public help with a homicide case with a victim visiting New Orleans from abroad. 30-year-old Janis Galis was shot and killed in Plum Orchard on Jan. 17 and had been spending time in NOLA for the past few months from Europe. NOPD wants help piecing together Galis' last events to help find the person who shot him. (WGNO New Orleans)
- New Orleans City Councilmember, Oliver Thomas, announced this weekend that New Orleans East will be directly receiving some of the funding leftover from the American Rescue Plan Act. Though a small portion of the $388 million that New Orleans originally received from the Act, the $5 million going towards Lincoln Beach, $1 million each going towards the Six Flags site and parks, playgrounds and the business park in District E and additional funding for cleanups, conflict resolution and more Quality of Life officers will hopefully be impactful. - A Crimestoppers tip led to the positive identification and subsequent arrest of a suspect wanted in a Dec. 27 fatal shooting on Julia Street in the Warehouse district. A 26-year-old woman was arrested in St. Tammany Parish and is awaiting extradition to Orleans Parish. (FOX 8 Local First)
