🌱 NOLA's First Sober Festival + Three New Pelicans Players

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New Orleans.

Hey, New Orleans! I'm here right on time with your fresh copy of the New Orleans Daily, full of everything you need to know about what's going on in town.


First, today's weather:

Here are the top three stories today in New Orleans:

  1. NOPD has detained a man who has been accused of firing shots into the Bethany United Church in Pontchartrain Park early Friday morning. No one was injured but the suspect was taken to the hospital for an evaluation and faces a charge of illegal discharge of a firearm.
  2. The New Orleans Pelicans have signed three new players to the roster with the first preseason game just a month away. Dereon Seabron, a rookie guard who preformed well in his summer league games, signed a two-way contract with the Pelicans. The other two players, John Petty Jr. and Daeqwon Plowden, were signed to practice squad deals. (SI.com)
  3. The very first dry festival, Sober Fest, will be holding their first event his November in New Orleans. In collaboration with Bridge House and Grace House, the sober festival will be held on November 12 at the Mardi Gras World Plaza to celebrate sobriety, recovery and to demonstrate that having fun in recovery is possible.   • Twenty-nine leaders across New Orleans have committed as community ambassadors to the "Real Men Wear Pink" campaign in an effort to bring more men's and the pubic's awareness and donations to breast cancer.
  • Cafe Reconcile is introducing a new Brunch Series on September 17 with DJ Polo and all proceeds benefitting the returns young adult workforce training program. (New Orleans Magazine)
