First, today's weather:
Showers and a heavier t-storm. High: 87 Low: 76.
Here are the top three stories in New Orleans today:
- You can expect to see some changes in the New Orleans Police Department in the coming months after the Mayor and NOPD Superintended reached out to two former NYC cops for guidance. An 88-page plan has been put together to help retain personnel, and the NOPD will temporarily welcome Chief Pichardo as a "consulting chief of operations."
- Formerly known as Lusher, the K-12 charter school will now be know as the Willow School starting September 3. After the community rallied in 2021 to remove the schools original name, one that honored white supremacist Robert Mills Lusher, the school went through many debates on what to call itself. There will be a renaming celebration honoring the school and its new buildings. (Biz New Orleans)
- After a two year journey, a NOPD officer's dream of getting a rainbow fleur-de-lis painted on Bourbon Street has come true, just in time for the 50th anniversary of Southern Decadence. (WGNO New Orleans)
