Here are the top stories today in New Orleans:
- Two men were shot on I-10 East on Tuesday night, and one later died. According to NOPD, the two victims sustained gunshot wounds around 10:13 p.m. near the Louisa Street exit. One man died at the scene and the other was taken to a hospital for treatment. (WDSU New Orleans)
- An $8.5 million Lower Ninth Ward infrastructure project was officially completed on Tuesday. Across 24 blocks in the Lower Ninth Ward, water, sewers, drain lines, sidewalks, curbs and road were all replaced or revamped with help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the New Orleans Sewerage and Waterboard (S&WB). The project begun in June 2020 and has now come to a close. (WDSU New Orleans)
- A NOPD sergeant has been arrested on domestic violence charges. Third District Sergeant Robert Evangelist was arrested Monday in St. Tammany on two counts of domestic battery of a partner and has been placed on emergency suspension while the NOPD Public Integrity Bureau investigates the incident. This is not the first time Evangelist has had a run in with the law, he was fired in 2005 after allegedly beating up a man on Bourbon Street after asking for directions, though Evangelist was later reinstated.
