🌱 Orleans Jail Inmates Injured During Raid + Danziger Bridge Closed

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New Orleans.

Good morning, everybody! It's me, Shannon Denney, your host of the New Orleans Daily. Here's what you need to know about what's happening these days in town.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny. High: 89 Low: 78.

Here are the top three stories today in New Orleans:

  1. Multiple New Orleans jail inmates were injured during a shakedown of the facility last week. The injuries ranged from bruises and cuts, some of which required medical treatment. The Orleans Parish Sheriff ordered the Louisiana Department of Corrections to search the facility on September 8, and this incident is the second time that jail detainees have been injured during shakedowns after the first search in August. (The Lens)
  2. The mayor's office has announced that it has hired a new press secretary, John Lawson III, who will begin the position effective immediately. Lawson has previously worked for the mayors office and will now manage public relations, including interviews and media appearances. (Press Release Desk)
  3. The Danziger Bridge will be closed this weekend for construction. It will be closed starting 10 a.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. Traffic can be rerouted I-10 Highrise Bridge. (WDSU New Orleans)
