🌱 Petition To Recall Mayor Cantrell + New Orleans Film Festival

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New Orleans.

Hey, friends. I'm here right on time with your Tuesday edition of the New Orleans Daily, filled with all the community news you need to know right now. Let's do it.

First, today's weather:

A stray morning thunderstorm. High: 90 Low: 80.

Here are the top three stories in New Orleans today:

  1. A petition to recall New Orleans Mayor, La Toya Cantrell, has officially been filed. The petition, which cited her approach to handling violent crime in the city and her travel habits while in office, was filed by former City Hall staffer Eileen Carter and Mardi Gras Indian and community activist Belden Batiste. The petition needs 53,000 signatures within the next 180 days in order to be effective.
  2. The 33rd annual critically acclaimed New Orleans Film Festival will be showcasing over 145 films in person and over 130 films virtually in November. The in-person locations for the festival will be The Prytania, Jazz Market New Orleans, The Broad Theater and The Broadside from November 3 through 8. You can get tickets on the New Orleans Film Society website. (New Orleans Magazine)
  3. Close to 100 calls to report a rape crime have been downgraded from high to low priority this year due to NOPD staffing shortages. The downgrade means that survivors likely have to wait hours before they receive assistance from police and often times end up leaving before police even show up. This delay in response also leaves many crimes unable to be solved. (WBRZ)
