🌱 Protest, Counter-Protest At Tulane + Monkeypox Vaccination Tent

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New Orleans.

Happy Labor Day, New Orleans! I'm back in your inbox this morning with your fresh edition of the New Orleans Daily. Here are all the things you need to know about what's happening locally.

First, today's weather:

Humid with a thunderstorm. High: 85 Low: 77.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in New Orleans who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our New Orleans Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top three stories today in New Orleans:

  1. Not only is the Louis Armstrong Park Health tent pop-up addressing monkeypox and COVID concerns throughout Southern Decadence this weekend, but the tent is also offering fentanyl test strips, Narcan and syringe exchanges. The pop up has vaccinated close to 350 people since it went up Thursday. It's final day of operations will be today just as Southern Decadence is coming to a close. (NOLA.com)
  2. NOPD responded to reports of an argument that had turned violent on Saturday that left one woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. The incident occurred 4:30 on St. Charles Avenue and the suspect left the scene shortly before the woman was taken to the hospital by EMS.(WGNO New Orleans)
  3. A small anti-gay, anti-abortion demonstration just outside Tulane campus drew a larger counter-protest on Friday. Just two or three individuals stood on the sidewalk of Ferret Street protesting while students passed between classes, which in turn brought out a much larger crowd of students and community members to combat. (Tulane Hullabaloo)

Today in New Orleans:

  • Tea Dance Revelry at Couvant (1 p.m.)
  • Bear With Me Open Mic Comedy at Twelve Mile Limit (7:30 p.m.PM)
  • Labor Day Party at Sidecar Patio and Oyster Bar (1 p.m.)

From my notebook:

  • Edward Buckles' documentary 'Katrina Babies' that was released August 24 on HBO has received lots of critical acclaim. You can read more about the documentary and it's response from this NYT opinion article here.(nytimes.com)
  • The precautionary boil water advisory that was enacted for parts of New Orleans East on Sunday has been lifted. (WDSU New Orleans)
  • The New Orleans Downtown Development District has announced its new enhanced security and code enforcement initiatives, which includes a $1 million dollar contract with a private security firm. (Press Release Desk)

Thanks for following along and staying informed. I'll see you soon!
