Here are the top stories in New Orleans today:

  1. The Department of Homeland Security has extended Louisiana's deadline for obtaining a REAL ID until May of 2025. The DHS said the extension allows residents more time to get the correct documents needed for a REAL ID. This means the updated ID requirement won't be enforced until then. (WGNO New Orleans)
  2. The New Orleans Sewerage and Water board is celebrating the replacement of some of their wind and steam turbines they use to create the electricity needed to prevent flooding and boil water advisories. Some of the turbines are over 100 years old and prone to failure, and the replacement will hopefully mean more reliability for the city of New Orleans. The project will cost about $300 million and will come from local, state and federal funds. (WWLTV.com)
  3. Three were injured in a 1 a.m. shooting on Monday. Two men and one woman were shot in the Tulane/Gravier area on North Dorgenois Street and were taken to the hospital via a private vehicle. NOPD is continuing to investigate with First District detectives. (WDSU)
