Here are the top stories in New Orleans today:

  1. Jason Williams, the Orleans Parish District Attorney, requested the City Council to increase his 2023 budget by $4.4 million at the City Council budget hearings. Williams cited the case backlog created by the pandemic as well as an all-around need for more employees and pay raises to help the office run smoothly. (FOX 8 Local First)
  2. The former director of the Juvenile Justice Intervention Center, Dr. Kyshun Webster, has been investigated by the New Orleans Office of the Inspector General for misuse of property, funding and neglect of duty. Webster reportable only swiped into the facility 13 times over a 12-month period and used staffing and resources from the JJIC to take care of his aging dog. (WGNO New Orleans)
  3. After over a year of curbside recycling services being suspended, the service will finally return to parts of New Orleans, specifically Areas 2 and 3, next week. On Nov. 7, neighborhoods west of the industrial canal, Lakeview, Gentilly, parts of Bywater, Mid-City, Marigny, the Lower Ninth Ward and New Orleans East will all have recycling and trash pickups on consistent days of the week.
