🌱 Shortened Mardi Gras Routes + Fatal Sunday Hit-And-Run

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New Orleans.

Hello, hello! It's me, Shannon Denney, your host of the New Orleans Daily. Here are all the most important things to know about what's happening locally. Today's issue includes updates on:

  • Teen boy shot multiple times
  • You can expect another Mardi Gras with shortened routes
  • A woman was killed in a hit-and-run on Sunday evening

But first, today's weather:

Turning sunny and breezy. High: 66 Low: 46.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in New Orleans who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our New Orleans Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top stories today in New Orleans:

  1. A teen was left hospitalized after being shot multiple times in New Orleans East on Sunday night. The incident occurred at the intersection of Chef Menteur and America Street around 8:40 p.m. where the 15-year-old victim was shot multiple times. The boy arrived at the hospital on his own for treatment, but his condition is currently unknown. (WGNO New Orleans)
  2. 2023 Mardi Gras parade routes will stay short this year due to a lack of law enforcement manpower. Similar to last year, when City Council was forced to remove blocks from parade routes because of lacking NOPD officers and municipal workers, it was questioned whether Mardi Gras parades would be even possible this year. NOPD is seeing its lowest retention in decades, but shorter parades are better than nothing. (New Orleans CityBusiness)
  3. A woman was killed in a hit-and-run on Sunday night. A man driving through the intersection of Crowder Boulevard and Chef Mentuer Highway and struck a woman who was trying to cross the street and then fled the scene just after 8 p.m. (WDSU)

Today in New Orleans:

  • Yoga with a Vue at Longue Vue House and Gardens (9:30 AM)
  • Society of Financial Awareness at the Harahan Branch Library (12:00 PM)
  • Louise Bourgeois Lecture by Clare Davies at NOMA (6:00 PM)

From my notebook:

  • Audubon Zoo is welcoming two new bear cubs who were rescued after being found alone in a den outside Anchorage, Alaska. The two young black bear sisters will join the zoo's other cub who was rescued earlier this year. (New Orleans Magazine)
  • The New Orleans Jazz Museum has just announced the music line-up for its 5th annual Improvisations Gala on Dec. 3! Tickets are on sale now! (New Orleans Jazz Museum via Instagram)
  • Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival wrapped up on Sunday after its first event in three years due to Ida and the pandemic. All who attended and participated considered it a success! (WGNO New Orleans)

Now you're in the loop and ready to start this Tuesday. I'll see you back in your inbox tomorrow with a new update!
