Here are the top stories in New Orleans today:

  1. New waste removal contracts were expected to take over half of New Orleans next month, but now it may not happen. The company responsible for the space of I-10 to the Jefferson Parish line is stalling because they claim their contract and pay does not accurately reflect the number of homes they service and that they have not received payback for the homes they covered over the pandemic. The company has filed for bankruptcy protection, which forbids the city from terminating their current contract. (WWLTV.com)
  2. An off-duty New Orleans police officer was shot in an armed robbery. On Thursday night, Officer Louis Blackmon, who has served on the force for four years in the Fourth district, was walking on North Rendon Street around 10:35 pm when a suspect approached him with a gun and demanded his possessions. The two struggled which culminated in Blackmon getting shot in the abdomen. (WDSU New Orleans)
  3. A Slidell student was arrested for bringing a gun to their high-school campus. Police were notified on Friday that a 15-year-old Salmen High student had brought a firearm to campus and was arrested and booked with the illegal carrying of a weapon on school property, juvenile possession of a firearm and terrorizing.
