Here are the top stories in New Orleans today:

  1. Two New Orleans Police officers had to be given Narcan after touching a bag covered in fentanyl and overdosed from the exposure. Mayor LaToya Cantrell just announced the incident, which includes the two unidentified officers, that occurred three weeks ago. They were taken to the hospital for treatment and had a full recovery. (WDSU New Orleans)
  2. A finance report has been released regarding the money spent on the "NoLaToya" recall campaign attempting to move Mayor LaToya Cantrell out of office. Since October, the campaign has gathered $488,000 in funds, with $470,000 of that coming from an Uptown Businessman Rick Farrell. The organizers currently need 15,000 more signatures for the governor to issue a election proclamation. (WDSU New Orleans)
  3. Construction is still ongoing at New Orleans' new DNA lab, but the NOPD just announced they have hired a director, Dr. Shamika Kelly. This crime lab will give New Orleans law enforcement the ability to test evidence in-house for the first time since Hurricane Katrina and should make solving crimes even faster now that the city doesn't have to deal with the backlog in Baton Rouge, where DNA is currently being sent.
