🌱 Violent Crime Victims Speak Out + Man Killed While Crossing U.S. 11

Here are the top three stories today in New Orleans:

  1. Three violent crime victims spoke out from their hospital beds this week after becoming the victims of a shooting on Easter Sunday and are calling on city officials to take action against the increasing violence across the city. The three victims have been in the hospital since last week when they were shot inside their car. (WWLTV.com)
  2. A man in a wheelchair was killed on Friday while trying to cross U.S. 11 near Slidell. He was trying to cross into the northbound lane when a car struck him. He was taken to the hospital for treatment where he later died. (NOLA.com)
  3. A Terrytown man has been sentenced to life in prison with four counts of first degree murder after a 2019 crime where fatally beat his girlfriend and their 3 children using a hammer. He plead guilty and received four life sentences, but avoided the death penalty.(WDSU New Orleans)

  • Big Freedia has announced her plans to open a high-energy hotel, nightclub, and restaurant in the French Quarter. The name, at least for now, will be called "Hotel Freedia." (Eater New Orleans)
  • Mardi Gras Indians are returning to the Streets of Algiers for West Bank Super Sunday today. After a two-year COVID hiatus, the parade will roll at corner of Lebouef and Ptolemy begging at 1pm. (FOX 8 Local First)
  • The RTA has launched an online survey for its Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Feasibility Study. The survey will allow the public to provide feedback on route options for the region's first BRT system connecting New Orleans East and Westbank. (Facebook)
