🌱 West Pearl Highway Bridge Closure + LA DA Trying To Withhold Funding

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New Orleans.

Hey, everybody! It's me, Shannon Denney, your host of the Daily. Here's what you need to know about what's happening locally.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny. High: 94 Low: 79.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in New Orleans who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our New Orleans Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top three stories in New Orleans today:

  1. Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry is seeking to try and withhold funding from the city of New Orleans after the city has claimed it won't be enforcing the abortion ban. Landry is pressuring the State Treasurer to delay any funding requests that come from New Orleans until it agrees to enforce the ban. This comes after New Orleans DA Jason Williams has said he won't be prosecuting abortion crimes and NOPD says it won't investigate them. (WGNO New Orleans)
  2. The West Pearl Highway bridge, a popular route used for hurricane evacuations or as an I-10 alternative, won't be reopening indefinitely. The bridge, which connects New Orleans to Hancock County, Mississippi via Chef Menteur Highway was closed in late May due to deterioration structure flaws. Since, the DOTD has discovered it needs much longer to evaluate and fix the damages. (NOLA.com)
  3. NOPD is currently investigating a Tuesday morning homicide that left one man dead in New Orleans East. Officers responded to a report of a shooting around 12:30 a.m. on Chef Menteur Highway where they found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and officers have begun to investigate the circumstances. (WDSU New Orleans)
