🌱 Youth Summer Curfew + US90B West Weekend Closure

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New Orleans.

Hello again, everybody! It's Saturday in New Orleans and I'm back in your inbox to get you caught up on all the most important things happening locally. Hope you all have a great day.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and comfortable. High: 90 Low: 76.

Here are the top three stories in New Orleans today:

  1. NOPD and the city of New Orleans have reinstated curfew hours for New Orleans youth this summer. Unsupervised juveniles under the age of 17 will be under curfew from 9 p.m. - 6 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays and from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Teens are not allowed to drive during this time and the curfew will be enforced all across the city. Teens found breaking the curfew will be brought back to their parents by police or placed in the city's curfew center while children under 10 will be put in protective custody. (WGNO New Orleans)
  2. The City of New Orleans' "Right to Counsel" program is helping out renters who are facing eviction with providing them lawyer free of charge. As evictions continue to rise post pandemic, the program is seeing lots of success keeping people housed. (WWNO)
  3. The Department of Transportation announced that US90B West will close for the weekend after the General De Gaulle Drive overpass for crews to work on repairs. It is scheduled to close at 8 p.m. today and reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday. You can use the Terry Parkway/Frontage Road Exit as a detour. (WGNO New Orleans)

Today in New Orleans:

  • Sprouts' "Life Cycles" at Longue Vue House and Gardens (9:30 a.m.)
  • Young Audiences of Louisiana Baby Artsplay at NOMA (10:30 a.m.)
  • Sensory Friendly Drumming in the French Quarter (noon)
  • Courtyard Jazz Performance at the New Orleans Jazz National Park (2 p.m.)

From my notebook:

  • After a two-year hiatus, Oak Street Po-Boy Fest is set to return this fall! The 14th annual festival will be held on November 6 and feature over 40 food vendors. (FOX 8 Local First)
  • Already excited for next year's Jazz Fest? The film "Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story" is now in theaters nationwide as of Friday and will be available on demand June 10. (New Orleans Jazz Fest via Instagram)
  • NOPD is currently searching for a suspect connected to a May 16 homicide. Leslea Grinstead, 23, has an arrest warrant for one count of second degree murder.

Alrighty, you're all caught up for today! I'll be back in your inbox tomorrow morning with a new update.
