Police Chiefs Faked Robberies in Visa Scheme (newser.com) — Oakdale residents are learning that federal prosecutors have charged local law enforcement officials in Oakdale, along with nearby Forest Hill and Glenmora, in an alleged long-running scheme to fake armed robberies for immigration visas. Investigators say officers filed false crime reports so noncitizens could seek special “U visas,” allegedly collecting thousands of dollars per fabricated victim. All five defendants have pleaded not guilty while some prepare for possible plea changes.
