Opelousas Police apprehend escaped inmate (katc.com) — Opelousas police quickly recaptured a Beauregard Parish inmate who escaped from a transport vehicle Wednesday near U.S. 190 and Wallior Street. Officers found the 29‑year‑old Opelousas man within 30 minutes, and he was booked into St. Landry Parish Jail on an additional simple escape charge.

Cops Capture Community (stlandrynow.com) — Opelousas residents turned out for the police department’s annual ā€œNights Out,ā€ enjoying free food, school supplies, and a chance to meet officers across from headquarters. Community members praised Chief Graig LeBlanc’s leadership and crime-fighting efforts while candidates and civic groups mingled, donated items, and joined in family-friendly activities.

Hospice of Acadiana invites caregivers to attend a free workshop (katc.com) — Caregivers in and around Opelousas can sign up now for a free Hospice of Acadiana workshop on Wednesday, August 26, at the St. Landry Economic Development Office on I‑49 Service Road. 4. Remembering Luke Leger (shreveportbossierjournal.com) — Family and friends are mourning Washington resident Luke Leger, who was born in Opelousas and passed away July 31 at age 67.
