Domestic Violence Awareness Month is observed each October and is a time to acknowledge the impacts and effects of domestic violence, support survivors of domestic abuse, and be a voice for domestic violence victims. National statistics show that more than 10 million people are affected by domestic violence each year, and that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced domestic violence.
Petrina Jenkins, Director of Community Education and Outreach for Project Celebration, Inc., will lead the presentation, “A Voice for the Voiceless and I Speak for the 1 in 4,” on Tuesday, October 19 at the David Raines Branch. Jenkins will discuss signs of domestic abuse, the effects of domestic violence, resources available for domestic violence victims, and how organizations such as Project Celebration and the National Domestic Violence Hotline can help in times of crisis.
