Red River Revel 50 Volunteer Opportunities: How to Sign Up (k945.com) — Shreveport's 50th Annual Red River Revel is coming to Festival Plaza October 8–11 and 15–18, with organizers actively recruiting volunteers to keep this hometown arts tradition thriving. Expect free daytime admission on select days, big-name music like Cowboy Mouth and Better Than Ezra, interactive art experiences, and plenty of family-friendly fun right on the Red River.
   

2. Barksdale medics get hands-on training at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center (westcentralsbest.com) — Medics from Barksdale Air Force Base recently crossed into Shreveport for intensive, hands-on airway and intubation training at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center. Working with VA surgeons and nurse anesthetists, they repeatedly practiced critical procedures in controlled and simulated scenarios, building confidence and strengthening a local partnership that could expand future training opportunities.
   

3. SBAS hosts free fall star party at Shreveport Observatory (ktalnews.com) — You can head just south of Shreveport this weekend for a free public star party at the Shreveport Observatory, hosted by the Shreveport-Bossier Astronomical Society. Telescopes will be set up to view planets, galaxies, and nebulae, though the event will be canceled if skies are too cloudy, so locals should check details online or contact organizers before driving out.
   

4. US Speaker Mike Johnson attends Calvary football game (shreveporttimes.com) — House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Shreveport native, surprised fans by attending the Loyola Prep–Calvary Baptist football game and offering the opening prayer, tying national politics to a familiar local setting. He mingled with spectators while Calvary's undefeated Cavaliers dominated behind standout performances from Z'ryan Mills and Hudson Price on a perfect Friday night under the lights.
