Confederate Statues 'Just Like' 9/11 Monument: Maine Governor
Removing Confederate statues is "just like" taking down the 9/11 monument in New York, Maine Gov. Paul LePage said Thursday.

AUGUSTA, ME — Maine Gov. Paul LePage on Thursday morning compared removing Confederate statues to taking down the 9/11 monument in New York. LePage made the comments during a radio interview with WGAN.
"Whether we like it or not, this is what our history is," LePage said. While discussing the recent removal of Confederate statues in recent days following the deadly violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, LePage continued, "It's just like going to New York City right now and taking down the monument of those who perished in 9/11."
