Maine Election Results: Clinton Wins, Pot Poised to Pass

The Maine election results are in: Hillary Clinton won three of the state's electoral votes; Donald Trump was projected to win one vote.

AUGUSTA, ME — Hillary Clinton won three of Maine's four electoral votes Tuesday and Pine Tree State voters approved increasing the minimum wage, while another measure to legalize marijuana appeared poised to pass by a razor-thin margin.

Clinton's win in Maine turned out not to be enough, as Donald Trump proved the polls wrong and scored a stunning upset victory. The Associated Press reported at about 2:30 a.m. that Trump earned the 270 votes necessary to win the presidency.

Maine awards its electoral votes based on a split system. Two votes go to the statewide winner. One vote goes to the popular vote winner in the First District and the last vote goes to the winner of the Second District. Trump won the Second District, according to multiple projections.
