Maine Lobstermen Saved From Sinking Boat
A Coast Guard crew rescued two lobstermen from a sinking boat off the coast of York, Maine.
YORK, ME β Two lobstermen aboard a sinking boat were plucked to safety by a Coast Guard crew Friday afternoon. The rescue happened about 17 miles off the coast of York. At about 3:15 p.m., the two-member crew of the 45-foot Miss Mae & Son issued a distress call after a rogue wave flooded the boat, rendering the pumps ineffective, according to Coast Guard Officer Mike Mathlin.
A Coast Guard rescue boat was launched from Portsmouth, New Hampshire and arrived at the scene as the lobstermen jumped in the water and were pulled up to safety, Mathlin said. The lobstermen were not hurt.
The duo "did all the right things β activated their emergency personal indicating response beacon, called for help on the radio, and wore the proper survival gear," Mathlin said.
