Teen Driver Clocked at 146 MPH on I-95 in Maine: Police

A Maine teenager in a souped-up Dodge Neon was arrested Wednesday after he was clocked at 146 mph in a 70 mph zone, police said.

PITTSFIELD, ME β€” A teenager driving a souped-up Dodge Neon was clocked at 146 mph on Interstate 95 in Pittsfield Wednesday, according to state police. Tyler Barrows, 18, of Manchester, was arrested and charged with criminal speeding.

The speed limit on that section of the highway is 70 mph.

State Police Lt. Bruce Scott said he was on patrol at mile marker 150 when he received a dispatch report that Barrows was traveling at a "high rate of speed" in a "blue sports car" on the northbound side of the highway near mile marker 135. Police said it normally takes a vehicle 12 minutes to reach his patrol location from that spot.

"Two minutes later, Lt. Scott saw a blue Dodge Neon (traveling) at a high rate of speed," State Police said in a statement. Scott then clocked Barrows at 146 mph and pulled him over, police said. The teen was also charged with failure to provide proof of insurance and failure to provide proper inspection.

Scott heads up the State Police Traffic Safety Division.

"In his entire career in law enforcement, he had never clocked someone ... at such a high rate of speed," police said.
