📰 News we're reading

1. More than a third of Bangor's pandemic relief funds still haven't been spent (bangordailynews.com) — Bangor still has about $7.5 million in ARPA pandemic relief awards that must be spent by year’s end or returned, with major chunks earmarked for wastewater upgrades and new housing. Several Bangor-area nonprofits, including Hope House, Habitat for Humanity Greater Bangor, and recovery organizations, are racing to finish projects and submit invoices so local services and housing efforts don’t lose this federal support.

2. Bangor's Paving Schedule And What Drivers Need To Know (z1073.com) — If you drive or park in Bangor, expect paving crews back on Joans Hill Road, Thomas Hill Road, Webster Avenue, West Street, Silver Street, and more starting August 10, with parking bans and slower traffic in work zones. The city is also using small mapping robots to improve sidewalk accessibility, and fresh paint and paving will continue to affect how you get around town.

3. Zoe Zellhart (wabi.tv) — A new associate producer based in Bangor, recent UMaine graduate Zoe Zellhart, has joined the WABI team after falling in love with Maine during college tours. Her background includes student media work, SkillsUSA competition, and a passion for storytelling that she’s now bringing to Bangor’s local airwaves.

4. $750M MaineCare transport contract will go to Colorado company, court rules (pressherald.com) — Maine’s high court has upheld a $750 million contract giving Colorado-based Modivcare control of all MaineCare non-emergency transportation, ending a challenge led by Bangor’s Penquis Community Action Agency. Penquis will keep coordinating rides, including in Penobscot County, until its contract ends December 31, while stressing continuity for local MaineCare riders and transport partners.
