📰 News we're reading
• Belfast Soup Kitchen opens Community Health Hub (wabi.tv) — Belfast Soup Kitchen has launched a new Community Health Hub, turning former market space into a place where guests can access on-site healthcare and support. Weekly hours and a mobile opioid treatment unit aim to reduce transportation barriers, with plans to add vaccines, blood draws, and dental and vision care. The hub is also seeking donations like a room divider and artwork.

• Waldo County nonprofit rescues massive garlic crop for Maine food access groups (wabi.tv) — Volunteers are gathering at Board Landing Farm in Belfast to rescue an acre of unharvested garlic so it can stock food pantries instead of going to waste. Waldo County Bounty expects more than 2,000 pounds to reach over a dozen food access groups amid rising need and funding cuts. The effort brings together gleaning organizations and residents from across Maine.

• Marine Corps receives first autonomous SHARC prototype (workboat.com) — A new autonomous Marine Corps vessel, the SHARC, was built at Safe Harbor Front Street in Belfast before heading into sea trials. The 38-foot craft is designed to move supplies and equipment to shorelines without ports, using advanced sensors and an open autonomy system. Belfast’s yard handled construction, while design and electronics came from firms around the East Coast.
