📰 News we're reading

• Farmington fiscal-year shift strengthens cash flow (sunjournal.com) — Farmington’s switch from a calendar-year to July–June fiscal year is already easing cash-flow pressures, with the town’s balance staying above $4.5 million. Officials say the change better aligns tax receipts with big school, county, and vendor bills, though some residents remain confused after the one-time six‑month transition budget.

• Farmington-area schools report fewer chronically absent homeless students (sunjournal.com) — Chronic absenteeism among RSU 9 students experiencing homelessness has dropped notably this year, a hopeful sign for vulnerable kids in the Farmington-area schools. Coordinator Amanda Clark credits close collaboration with school teams and targeted grants that helped families with housing, utilities, transportation, and basic needs, with more funding requests and support strategies planned for 2026–27.

• Obituary: Elisabeth Fuchs Crowley (centralmaine.com subscription) — A longtime Maine educator and community volunteer who earned her history degree as an adult at the University of Maine at Farmington has died at 86. Her life of public service, Catholic faith leadership, and famously welcoming kitchen touched communities from Mercer to Cumberland Center, and her family invites memorial gifts supporting climate science through the University of Maine Foundation.
