Hotel development: Despite market headwinds, developers are getting projects done in Maine (mainebiz.biz) — Kittery’s hospitality scene is growing with the new Foreside Inn on Wentworth Street, offering extended-stay suites with kitchenettes and private balconies designed to match Kittery Foreside’s creative, tucked-away vibe. Developed by Madbury Real Estate Ventures with Kittery’s own Winter Holben Design & Architecture, the project is part of a broader wave of hotel development and investment across Maine despite higher construction costs and cautious lenders. 
2. Basking shark sighting off Pepperrell Cove in Kittery: What to know (fosters.com) — A large, harmless basking shark was spotted off Pepperrell Cove in Kittery on May 30, coming within about 150 yards of shore and drawing attention from the town harbormaster. Officials are urging boaters and swimmers to keep their distance, watch carefully ahead on the water, and simply let these increasingly frequent marine visitors pass through safely.
3. Navy Confirms Wreck Site of WWII Submarine USS Herring (military.com) — Kittery gets a poignant mention as the birthplace of the WWII submarine USS Herring, which the Navy has now conclusively located on the seafloor off Japan after 82 years. The sub, launched from Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery in 1942, was lost with 83 sailors aboard; officials say the newly confirmed wreck will be protected as a war grave and offers long-sought closure to families and historians.
4. Belfast City Park neighbors say pickleball noise is ruining their lives (bangordailynews.com) — Kittery recently shut down its outdoor pickleball court over noise concerns, and Belfast neighbors are now pleading with their city to address similar nonstop pickleball noise they say makes their home unlivable. Belfast officials are weighing new hours, lighting changes, and possibly relocating the courts, while trying to balance residents’ peace and the sport’s growing popularity.
