• Orono residents and leaders ask CSX to address railroad drainage concerns (wabi.tv) — Orono residents and town leaders are pressing CSX to fix a blocked drainage system along the tracks after a recent derailment tied to a culvert collapse. With homes just 40 to 50 feet from the rail line, they're seeking stronger communication with federal and state regulators, and plan to raise their concerns with Gov. Janet Mills and Maine's congressional delegation.
• Women's Basketball selected fourth in America East preseason poll - University of Maine Athletics (goblackbears.com) — UMaine's women's basketball team, based in Orono, has been picked fourth in the America East preseason poll and will open the season at home against Siena on November 5. With key scorers returning and limited season tickets already on sale, Orono fans have an early chance to lock in seats and follow another competitive Black Bears campaign.
• UMaine removes George Mitchell's name from building and scholarship program (bangordailynews.com) — University of Maine trustees have voted to remove George Mitchell's name from a sustainability center, its fund, and a peace scholarship, including signage on Norman Smith Hall at the Orono campus. The change follows a task force finding that his repeated appearance in Jeffrey Epstein-related files could harm public trust, even though no wrongdoing by Mitchell has been established.
