📰 News we're reading

1. Pair of rare, colorful lobsters have a new home in Maine (popsci.com subscription) — Two rare lobsters, a blue and a split-colored specimen, now live at Portland's Gulf of Maine Research Institute, where they'll fascinate visiting fifth- and sixth-graders from across Maine. Their new home at GMRI's LabVenture program helps local students explore Gulf of Maine ecosystems and understand how a rapidly warming ocean is reshaping the region's climate and coastal economy.

2. Inclusive welding school in South Portland draws Troy Jackson during Labor Day tour (wgme.com) — A South Portland welding school focused on inclusive training welcomed Senate President Troy Jackson during his Labor Day tour, spotlighting workforce development close to Portland. Shop owner Jo Remillard pressed for more funding for trade programs, saying inclusive schools can miss out on federal support even as they train workers for Maine's infrastructure and local jobs.

3. Sea Dogs prevail with late comeback (pressherald.com) — Portland Sea Dogs fans can celebrate a dramatic road win after the team erased a 4-0 deficit with a six-run eighth inning in Bowie, Maryland. Ronald Rosario's two-run homer sparked the rally, Tyler McDonough delivered the tying and go-ahead hits, and relievers Steven Brooks and Erik Rivera combined to shut the door for a 6-4 victory.

4. Ruling: Dad can halt girl's church-going (arkansasonline.com) — Maine's highest court has upheld a Portland District Court ruling giving a father final say over his daughter's attendance at an evangelical church after concerns the services harmed her and undermined his relationship with her. The decision, involving Calvary Chapel Greater Portland in nearby Westbrook, could now be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, drawing wider attention to a case rooted in southern Maine.
