Woman killed in Portland, Maine hit-and-run crash (boston.com) — Police are searching for the driver of a dark-colored pickup truck that fatally struck a 57-year-old pedestrian Monday night on Forest Avenue in Portland and then fled. Officers responded around 9:20 p.m. to 1837 Forest Ave., and investigators are asking anyone with information or who witnessed the hit-and-run to call 207-874-8575. 
2. Portland social housing task force recommends pilot project near Morrill's Corner (pressherald.com) — Portland's Social Housing Task Force is urging the city to launch a 40‑unit, city-owned pilot housing project on Cornell Street near Morrill's Corner and expand middle-income units through the Portland Housing Authority. Their report asks the City Council to create a permanent social housing program and consider municipal bonding to tackle the city's "missing middle" housing needs.
3. Report: ICE apprehensions surge in Maine, expanding to 50 communities in 2026 (newscentermaine.com) — Immigration enforcement in Maine has surged in 2026, with new data showing Portland recorded 51 ICE apprehensions as activity spread to 50 communities statewide. Lewiston, South Portland, Scarborough, and Biddeford saw some of the highest totals, and most people detained had no criminal convictions, according to the Maine Immigrants' Rights Coalition's analysis of federal records.
4. Meet Goose, our Adoptable Pet of the Week (wmtw.com) — If you're looking to adopt in the Greater Portland area, Goose is a playful, high-energy dog available through the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland in Westbrook. The shelter uses first-come, first-served adoptions, with sign-in starting at 9 a.m. on open days, and interested adopters must arrange a meet-and-greet if they already have a dog.
5. Emergency alerts for deaf and hard of hearing people now available at two Portland music venues (newscentermaine.com) — Emergency alerts for deaf and hard of hearing concertgoers are now live at Portland's State Theatre and Thompson's Point using a locally built app called ALRM. Created by 16-year-old Cape Elizabeth resident Gavin Phelan, the system turns these venues into automatic alert zones, sending visual and vibration warnings for alarms, sirens, and other critical sounds to smartphones and smartwatches.
