Portland officials still wrangling over future of family shelter (pressherald.com) — Portland officials are still debating what to do with the aging family shelter on Chestnut Street, even as it now serves 27 families and needs major repairs. Councilors weighed options from retrofitting or rebuilding downtown to partnering with developers or the Portland Housing Authority, while staff urged a larger, city-owned facility funded through a public‑private partnership.
   

2. Portland mayor calls for increased attention from drivers, pedestrians (wmtw.com) — Portland's mayor is urging drivers and pedestrians to be extra cautious after several recent crashes in the city, including one where a child's foot was run over by a dump truck on Washington Avenue. He's reaffirming the city's Vision Zero commitment and asking everyone to slow down, avoid distractions, and report any information about the ongoing crash investigations to Portland police.
   

3. Fast-growing Scarborough to get additional transit service (mainebiz.biz) — Scarborough is getting a new on-demand microtransit service that will link riders to Greater Portland Metro's fixed routes and, eventually, expanded bus service between Portland, South Portland, and Scarborough. Backed by Maine Turnpike Authority funding, the project aims to ease turnpike congestion, improve access to jobs and services, and better connect Portland-area communities.
   

4. Trey Anastasio Band Announces More Fall Dates (relix.com) — Trey Anastasio Band will kick off its fall tour at Portland's State Theatre on Tuesday, Nov. 10, before heading to other East Coast cities. Tickets for the newly announced dates, including the Portland show, go on sale Wednesday, Sept. 16 at noon, giving local fans a chance to see Anastasio ahead of his Worcester benefit concerts.
   

5. 2026 Cohort of NASDA Next Generation Students Announced (americanagnetwork.com) — Portland will host the 2026 NASDA Annual Meeting Sept. 13–16, bringing the NASDA Next Generation student program to the city. College students from across the country, including several from Maine and New England, will network with agriculture leaders, explore policy issues, and learn how they can shape the future of food and farming.
