After 44 years, Mountain Valley superintendent prepares for life after school (sunjournal.com) — Rumford-area families will see a major leadership change as longtime RSU 10 Superintendent Deb Alden retires July 1 after guiding the decade-long Mountain Valley Community School project that replaced Rumford Elementary. Her successor, assistant superintendent Matt Gilbert, will take over a district still adjusting to the new $92 million school and past challenges like pandemic delays and the sudden mold-related closure of Mountain Valley Middle School.

UNE offers high schoolers insights, encouragement into STEM fields (une.edu) — Fourteen Rumford students from Mountain Valley High School recently spent a day in the University of New England’s Portland anatomy lab, getting rare hands-on exposure to real organs and medical-school life. The trip, part of UNE’s AORTA outreach program, aims to help rural students picture themselves in future STEM and medical careers by learning directly from current medical students.

4. Obituary: Eva Anne Stalmuke (sunjournal.com) — Longtime Rumford resident Eva Anne Stalmuke, 79, has passed away, with calling hours set for June 25 and funeral services June 26 in Rumford. Born and raised here, she worked at the paper mill, cherished her large family, and was known for her love of animals, crafts, and baking.
