Local leaders and environmental groups are weighing fish passage, jobs, tax revenue, flood risks, and new recreation opportunities that could reshape the town for generations.

3. Norway Savings Bank contributes $1,000 to Declaration of Independence statewide tour (bangordailynews.com) — Skowhegan residents will get a rare chance to see an original 1776 Dunlap Broadside of the Declaration of Independence when it stops at the Margaret Chase Smith Library on Sept. 25-26. The statewide tour, funded in part by Norway Savings Bank, will bring public viewings, student visits, and special events to each host community from July through October.

4. Somerset County to maintain current Lake Moxie Road speed limit (themainemonitor.org) — Meeting in Skowhegan, Somerset County commissioners decided to keep Lake Moxie Road’s speed limit at 45 mph while fixing confusing signs in The Forks village area. After an MDOT study found no basis for a major reduction, the county opted to remove an unenforceable 30 mph sign, add a village warning sign, and post more consistent 45 mph markers.

5. Stanley B. Chenoweth (wiscassetnewspaper.com subscription) — Longtime Mainer Stanley Bruce Chenoweth, who moved to Skowhegan as a teenager and briefly worked in the town’s woolen mill after his Navy service, has died at 92. His obituary traces a career in marine science, his retirement in Eustis, and invites memorial donations to several Maine organizations important to him.
