• Maine Bagel-Off moves to Wiscasset (boothbayregister.com) — A major food event is headed to Wiscasset as the Maine Grain Alliance brings its second Maine Bagel-Off to the Maine Tasting Center campus on Saturday, Oct. 24. Up to 20 bagel makers will compete for top honors, with attendees helping choose a People’s Choice winner. Tickets are required, with discounts for Maine Grain Alliance and Maine Tasting Center members and free admission for kids 12 and under.
   

• Former Maine judge and hot dog stand owner dies at 95 (bangordailynews.com) — Wiscasset readers are remembering Alan Crosby Pease, who grew up on Water Street, ran the hot dog stand that evolved into Red’s Eats, and later practiced law and served on the Wiscasset School District and Select Board. He went on to become a respected Maine District Court judge and a leader in modernizing the state’s court technology. Pease died Sept. 2 at age 95, leaving a legacy of public service and community connection.
   

• Binc Announces Five Winners of the Susan Kamil Emerging Writers Prize (graphicpolicy.com) — A Wiscasset bookseller is getting national recognition as Toni Chappell, owner of Fiction: A Novel Bookshop in town, is one of five recipients of the $10,000 Susan Kamil Emerging Writers Prize. The award, administered by the Book Industry Charitable Foundation, will help her focus on completing her historical fiction manuscripts. Other winners hail from bookstores in New York, Oregon, and Georgia.
