Aberdeen IronBirds Host Food Drive At Leidos Field

The food drive will take place on Aug. 12 and 13 to benefit two local non profit organizations.

From Aberdeen Iron Birds: Together with the Maryland Food Bank, the Aberdeen IronBirds are helping to feed the food-insecure population of Harford County, Maryland. This weekend, the IronBirds will host a food drive at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium in partnership with the Maryland Food Bank to benefit two local non-profit groups - Harford Community Action Agency (August 12) and Bel Air United Methodist Church (August 13).

Volunteers from both organizations will be on-site at each game collecting non-perishable food and monetary donations in front of the stadium’s main gates.“One thing our fans know how to do is rally – rally for a win on the field and rally to support those in need within the community,” said IronBirds General Manger Matt Slatus. “We are proud to team up with the Maryland Food Bank to support Harford County-based nonprofit organizations by doing our part to bring food, funds and attention to the food insecure population in our county and the state of Maryland.”The Maryland Food Bank is a nonprofit hunger-relief organization, leading the movement to end hunger throughout Maryland. For more than 35 years, the Maryland Food Bank has partnered with communities across the state to distribute food to individuals and families in need. Through carefully-crafted programs, the food bank aims to meet the immediate needs of Marylanders while simultaneously working to find long term ways to reduce hunger statewide.

Currently distributing more than 112,000 meals per day – more than 41 million meals annually – the Maryland Food Bank will continue to expand its efforts until hunger ends.In addition to the food drive, the IronBirds are offering two reserve seats (up to a $30 value) for just $20 to either game – 25% ($5) of each two-pack purchased will be donated directly to the Maryland Food Bank.Fans unable to attend the game can still show their support for the Maryland Food Bank by contributing to the IronBirds ‘virtual food drive’ at https://fooddrive.mdfoodbank.org/ironbirds.
