Aberdeen Loses Baseball Rivalry to Havre de Grace

Despite a game delay because of the threat of lightening, both teams played with determination through all seven innings.

After leading most of the way, the  Aberdeen Eagles baseball team lost, 9-7, to the Havre de Grace Warriors Wednesday night.

Havre de Grace coach Chad Blevins said hard work on defense and avoiding mental lapses  was the key to his team's success.

“All year long we’ve been preaching, ‘battle seven innings,’” Blevins said.

“They were battling the whole game,” said Aberdeen head coach Charles “Rigor” Mortis. “It’s tough when you’ve got four games in one week.”

Aberdeen High School athletic director Tim Lindecamp encouraged the team gathered at the pitcher’s mound after the loss.

“We’ve got to come back Friday,” Lindecamp said. “We’ve got to keep fighting and keep trying.”

Aberdeen (2-9) jumped out to an early lead and was ahead, 6-2, after two innings.  Havre de Grace scored three runs in the top of the third to narrow the score to 6-5 and the two teams traded runs in the fourth as Aberdeen held a 7-6 lead.

After Havre de Grace (4-7) tied the game at 7-7, the Warriors took advantage of an Aberdeen error to score the deciding run in the top of the seventh and the final run waltzed across the plate on a bases-loaded walk.

Blevins said both teams played hard all the way through.

“Aberdeen didn’t fold,” Blevins said. “These guys are fighters.”
