Blown Surge Protector Ignites Living Room Fire

Aberdeen firefighters extinguished the fire shortly after 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Aberdeen firefighters extinguished a living room fire in a home at the 1400 block of Cranberry Drive shortly after 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

The living room entertainment center, including a television, DVD player, and an Xbox console, burned in the fire after the surge protector they all were plugged into blew and lit the carpet on fire, said Aberdeen Fire Chief Steve Hinch.

The fire did not spread to another room.

A resident was home at the time of the incident, but no one was injured.
