On Saturday Nov. 19, the Black Youth in Action of Harford and Cecil Counties will be hosting its 38th annual Debutante Ball. The event will introduce high school juniors and seniors into society. These young people are supported by community businesses and other organizations. The debutantes participate in workshops such as communication, poise & charm, self-esteem, fine dining and community service. These sponsored activities help to prepare them with knowledge and the self-esteem to take part in their leadership roles in today’s society. Debutante participants are also provided with a college stipend. Black Youth in Action was organized in the spring of 1972 by Mrs. Mazie Taylor, a Harford County Public School teacher, to support black youth in the community. The organization instills cultural awareness and a spirit of unity and love for God, family and community. The organization sponsors several other events, projects and service opportunities during the year. Any elementary school student or older can join the organization. The Ball will be held at Martin's East 9000 Pulaski Highway Middle River, Md starting at 6:00 p.m. Tickets can be bought at the BYA website, www. blackyouthinactionadults.org.Go to black youth in action on Facebook and Instagram for more information about the organization.
