City Council Approves Boys and Girls Club Project

The Boys and Girls Club has a new, government-backed academic program in store for its young members.

A new project from the earned approval from the Aberdeen  at Monday's meeting.

Under new legislation, the City Council plans to support the "Learn" project, which aims to provide research and educational programming for club members ages 6 through 11. It also urges the state Department of Housing and Community Development to grant the Boys and Girls Club tax credits for the academic program. 

"It'll give us another tool in our toolbox for fundraising, which we greatly appreciate," said Tory Pierce, board president of the Boys and Girls Club.

The City Council also approved a preliminary site plan for renovations to the Grace United Methodist Church to update the church's interior and add an 800-square-foot addition and paved parking lot.
