Harvey's Debut with IronBirds: 'Strong,' 'Outstanding,' 'Intimidating'

Hunter Harvey made a "strong debut in Aberdeen" Tuesday, according to MASNsports.com.

Harvey allowed just one unearned run and struck out five before leaving in the top of the fifth upon reaching his organization-imposed pitch limit, the Mid Atlantic Sports Network reported.

Though the IronBirds fell to the Hudson Valley Renegades, Harvey struck out five, threw fastballs at 94 to 95 mph and said playing in Ripken Stadium felt like "real baseball," according to The Baltimore Sun.

Previously, the right-handed pitcher, who is 18 years old, was on the roster with the Gulf Coast Orioles.

Harvey was "outstanding on the mound" Tuesday, the team reported on the IronBirds blog.

“He was intimidating,” IronBirds manager Matt Merullo told The Sun.

After losing 1-0, the IronBirds travel to Duchess Stadium in New York to face off against the Renegades twice more, according to the IronBirds.  Games were scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.

The IronBirds led the New York-Penn League's McNamara Division entering Wednesday's action. Should the Brooklyn Cyclones make up the half-game in the standings and take over the division lead, the IronBirds would sit five games out of the Wild Card standings.
